EAST WENATCHEE - Former Wenatchee resident Marie J. Whitworth, 89, of East Wenatchee, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 1994, at Highline Convalescent Center in East Wenatchee.
She was born Sept. 11, 1905, to Joseph and Mary "Nettie" (Jones) Ramsey in Gridley, Kan. She moved at an early age with her parents to West Plain, Mo., Broken Arrow, Okla., Doddridge, Ark., and then to Bright Star, Ark., where she was raised and educated. She taught Sunday school and played the pump organ at the Little Country Church.
She married Roy Whitworth on March 17, 1923, at Atlanta, Texas, where they lived. They moved frequently during Yhe Depression to various places in Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. They moved to DeSoto, Kan., at the beginning of World War II and worked at a munitions plant. They moved to Chelan in 1946 and later to Concrete, Sedro Woolley, North Bend and in 1967 to Wenatchee.
Mrs. Whitworth was a member of King's Orchard Church of Christ in Wenatchee. She was a past member and past grand noble of the Rebekah Lodge in Garnett, Kan., and in Sedro Woolley and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Wenatchee. She also worked for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Wenatchee and knit hundreds of mittens and slippers for the Headstart program.
Survivors include two sons, Dean of Yakima and Kenneth of Wenatchee; a brother, Joe Ramsey of Chelan; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967.
Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Home in Wenatchee.
