Mrs May Ratcliffe, wife of Edward Ratcliffe, died at her home, one mile east of Clemons, Wednesday night at 10:30 o'clock after a lingering sickness. The immediate cause of her death was peritonitis.
Mrs Ratcliffe, whose maiden name was May Whittemore, was born in Dubuque, July 1, 1866, where she lived until she grew to womanhood, when she went to Clemons to reside. Mr and Mrs Ratcliffe were married in this city.
Mrs Ratcliffe is survived by her husband and one daughter, Clara, in addition to her mother, who lives in Dubuque, and four sisters. The latter are Mrs Anna Hutter, Mrs Maud Jacobs and Miss Josephine Whittemore, all of Dubuque and Mrs John McCormack of Boone.
The funeral will be held from the Catholic church of St Anthony, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in the St Anthony cemetery.
