LEOMINSTER -- Francis M. Whitney, 84, a resident of the Keystone Center, 44 Keystone Drive, formerly of 600 Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday night, Jan. 27, in the nursing home, after an illness.
He was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Leominster, the son of Austin and Daisy (Wilder) Whitney, and had lived here most of his life.
Mr. Whitney worked at the former Foster Grant Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1977.
He served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1955.
Mr. Whitney was a member of First Church Unitarian Universalist and the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 75 in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Catherine (Despotopulos) Whitney; a son, Thomas D. Whitney of Amherst; a grandson, nephews and nieces.
Three brothers, Buddy Whitney, David Whitney and Gilbert Whitney, and a sister, Laura Whitney, predeceased him.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102.
