She was graduated from Cathedral High School in 1925, and from the former Westfield Normal School and Bay Path Institute. She was also a 1931 graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Newport Hospital Alumni Association.
She leaves her husband, Ormsby E. Whitney; a daughter, Frances B. Mongeon of South Windsor; a brother, James H. Bell Jr. of Beverly; a sister, Florence Sullivan of Springfield, and five grandchildren.
