Frances E. (Martin) Whitney, 82, of 101 Mulberry St., Springfield, and formerly of Oak Hollow Road, a retired registered nurse in obstetricians' offices, died at home.

Born in Newport, R.I., she lived in Springfield most of her life.

She was graduated from Cathedral High School in 1925, and from the former Westfield Normal School and Bay Path Institute. She was also a 1931 graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of the Newport Hospital Alumni Association.

She leaves her husband, Ormsby E. Whitney; a daughter, Frances B. Mongeon of South Windsor; a brother, James H. Bell Jr. of Beverly; a sister, Florence Sullivan of Springfield, and five grandchildren.
