According to U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, found on Ancestry.com, Marcus I. Whitney, aged 44, a Carpenter residing in Southwick, Massachusetts enlisted on August 15, 1862 as a Private, serving the State of Massachusetts. He enlisted in Company F, Massachusetts 27th Infantry Regiment on August 15, 1862 and was mustered out on September 27, 1864. He married Susan Abigail Tryon on April 16, 1834. He died of heart failure, according the death record. He was the son of Israel and Martha Whitney.
