Miss Nellie J. Whitney died Wednesday morning at 12:30 a.m. at the Convalescent home, 643 West Main street, where she has been a patient since October, 1939.
She was born June 4, 1870, in Ronald township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Whitney, who were pioneers in Ionia county. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney were from Ohio.
She lived with her parents and her sister, Lettie M. Whitney, on their farm in Ronald. After her parents death, the two girls continued to live at the homestead until it was destroyed by fire in 1938. They moved to Muir at that time. May 30, 1939, she fell and broke her hip. She was removed to the Ionia hospital and later transferred to the Ionia Convalescent home.
Surviving is the sister, Lettie, who is also a patient at the Ionia Convalescent home, and one nephew, Ray H. Whitney, of Binghampton, New York.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. The body will lie at the Stone funeral home.

Funeral services for 70 year old Nellie J. Whitney will be held from the Stone funeral home Saturday, May 4 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. Clarence A. Brady will officiate and interment will be held in North Plains cemetery.
