A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Helen Whitlock Cova, 83, of Heflin, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Golden Springs with the Very Reverend Bryan K. Lowe and the Very Reverend Richard E. Donohoe, S.T.D., officiating. Burial will follow in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, followed by a prayer service, on Friday evening at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Mrs. Cova passed away on February 16, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Cova was active in the VFW Auxiliary serving as a past president at Post 924, State president from 1995-1996, and serving on the National Aid Council from 1996-1997. She worked at the GE plant, Blue Mountain cotton mill, and went on to retire after 30 years from FMC. She had been a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church for over 60 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Antone Cova; her parents, Lola and John Whitlock; a sister, Mary Kendred; and her brothers, Ernest Whitlock, Robert Whitlock, and John Whitlock.
Mrs. Cova is survived by three daughters, Kala Turner and husband, Dana, of Heflin, Gina Cova of Sandy Springs, GA, and Tina Younger and husband, Tom, of Lake Guntersville; three sons, Michael Cova and wife, Lanelle, of Oxford, Alan Cova and wife, Marcia, of Deatsville, and Mark Cova and wife, Kelly, of Talladega; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and her longtime companion, Bob Clayton.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Benjamin Carroll, J. Frank Carroll, Dustin Nunnelly, Chris Nunnelly, Peter Cova, and Austin Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, WTI 210, 1720 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294-3300; Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Building Fund, 16 Morton Road, Anniston, AL 36205; or to a favorite charity.
