RICHMOND — Verna White Anderson, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Hawthorne House in Freeport.
She was born in Durham on May 9, 1916, the daughter of Charles James White and Clara Jane Holmes White. She graduated with honors from Brunswick High School.
On June 11, 1937, she married Walter L. Anderson of Richmond. He died July 11, 1988.
She worked for the Maine State Treasury Department in Augusta, retiring in 1977.
After retirement, she spent several winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with her husband. She also enjoyed her camp on Lower Narrows Pond in Winthrop in earlier years.
She attended Westport Baptist Church on Westport Island.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Anderson of Dallas, Texas, Jane Grover of Topsham and Martha Tribbet and her husband, Bing, of Richmond; a son, Frank Anderson and his wife, Marian, of Boothbay; seven grandchildren, Richard Grover, Cynthia Hoyt, Jennifer Ridenour, Jeffrey Tribbet, Frank Anderson Jr., Shanna McNeil and Rachel Nichols; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Walter; and six sisters and two brothers, Margery Walker, Josiah White, William White, Mabel Goodwin, Lottie Young, Beulah Coffin, Clara Keenan and Velma Dixon.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond. Burial will take place in the spring.
