Lillie, "Bunch" to her brother and sisters, was born October 24, 1913 to John and Jennie Weldon White near Lovilia, Iowa. She was a twin to Lester John White. Lillie was raised in the Lovilia and Bussey area, where she attended Lovilia High School. Lillie was united in marriage with Bert Barnes on January 23, 1938, in Unionville, Missouri. After their marriage, they for a time lived with Lillie's mother Jennie in Lovilia. The two then moved to Newton for Bert's job at Maytag. In June of 1941 Hattie LaJean was born. Hattie was their only child and was lovingly adored by both parents. Before Hattie attended school they moved to Otley, where they lived for 35 years.

Lillie worked in the Otley general grocery store and also the Otley post office. With Bert's declining health, they sold the home in Otley and moved to an apartment complex in Pella. During these years Lillie worked for Pella Super Value store.

Bert and Lillie both become members of the Berean Baptist Church, where Lillie was a very active member, helping with youth programs.

Lillie was a devoted Christian woman, very quiet spoken, and was kind to everyone! Her nieces and nephews called her "Aunt Lil". She enjoyed babysitting the three Byers children. She and Bert enjoyed gardening and canning the produce. For several years, the family vacationed with friends Clarance and Hazel Bricker, and niece Sandra (Funk) Winegardner.

She was a talented seamstress and loved to knit and do craft projects. Her greatest joys in life were her two grandchildren, Melissa and Aaron!

Lillie lived nine years at Fair Haven. With her health failing, she moved to West Ridge Nursing Home in Knoxville two years ago.

Preceding Lillie in death were her parents, John and Jennie White; husband, Bert Barnes; beloved daughter Hattie Jansson; brother, Lester White; and sisters, Martha Keeton, Dorcas Ver Ploeg, and Ann Funk.

Those left to cherish Lillie's memory are her son-in-law, Jon Jansson of Chanhassen, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Melissa Jansson of Bend, Oregon, and Aaron Jansson of Shakopee, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Myrtle White of Leon, Iowa.
