Merilyn Rose White Pezzuto, RN 91, of Walnut Creek, CA. May 27, 2014 in Walnut Creek, CA. Born April 19, 1923, San Francisco, CA, loving daughter of Rose and Tom White. Merilyn grew up in and loved San Francisco, spending her childhood in Visitacion Valley of San Francisco, where she attended Visitacion Elementary School and Notre Dame High School. She attended college at St Joseph's School of Nursing in San Francisco, where she developed some of her deepest and long lasting friendships. She proceeded to Dominican College of San Rafael, where she completed her BA in Social Welfare and served as the college nurse. She served in the Army Cadet Nursing Corp during WWII. Merilyn married Alexander Pezzuto at the Carmel Mission in 1949. They made their home with their six children in Crockett, California, where they celebrated both Irish and Italian traditions and food with their large extended family and friends. Their catering business and delicatessen served many happy occasions to families and businesses in Crockett and the greater Bay Area. Merilyn was a proud member of the Hibernians, YLI, Native Daughters of California, St. Rose's Catholic Church in Crockett, then St. Anne's in Walnut Creek, Sierra Club of California, California Alpine Club, and the American Nursing Association. Merilyn was a dedicated volunteer, serving for years as school nurse at St. Patrick's School in Rodeo; as a member of the Crockett Improvement Association, and contributed to her community by caring for neighbors. She modeled caring and love to all she met and always offered an open heart. Merilyn is survived by her six children, Rosemary Pezzuto (Henry R. Wroblewski) of Bowie Md, Donato Pezzuto (Frances) of Elk Grove, CA, Cecilia Mattiuzzi (Paul) of Sacramento, CA, Thomas Pezzuto (Margaret) of Crockett, CA, Eileen Kahn (Eric) of Danville, CA, and Mary Pezzuto (Paul Farrington) of Oakland, CA, her grandchildren and great-grandson, and forthcoming great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anthony's San Francisco--St. Anthony Foundation, 150 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco, CA 94102. May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Hosselkus Chapel (510) 799-1411
