Marietta - Services for ALAMITO "SUG" WHITE, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Marietta Church of Christ, with Travis Huffman and Dr. Virgil Trout officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Born on Jan. 23, 1919, in Marietta, to Oliver Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Scheiner Comer, she passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Ardmore.
She and Lee White were married on June 10, 1936. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 30, 1976.
A resident of Oklahoma most of her life, Mrs. White also made her home in Illinois, Colorado and California for brief periods. A 1936 graduate of Marietta High School, Mrs. White also attended school at Pike and Burneyville. She graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State College, and taught school 28 years, mainly sixth grade, in addition to serving as basketball coach, speech instructor, and 4-H sponsor.
She was also a rancher for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Oklahoma Education Association, and Retired Educators Association. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Mercy Health Love County, and had been a member of Marietta Church of Christ since the age of 12.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Frank Comer, Henry Comer, Wylie Comer and Son Comer; and two sisters, Marietta Comer Dethloff and Katherine Comer Beeson.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Margie White, Columbia, S.C., Harold and Sondra White, Eastman, Lee and Joan White, Ardmore; a daughter and son-in-law, Janie and David Horton, Ardmore; nine grandchildren, Ricky, Rex Jr., Scott, Todd, Jennifer, Johnmark, Michael, Kathryn and Mark; six great-grandchildren, Janssen, Ethan, Kyndal, Reagan, Maggie and Sarah.
Bearers will be Derek Hallum, Kent Shankles, Robert Williams, Allen Woody, Mike Fitts and Frank Lornes Jr. Honorary bearers are Mark Rhoades, John Thompson, Joe Davis, Lance Parker, R.J. Howerton, Bill Flanagan, David Flanagan, Donnell Cox and all her former students.
