Frances Whitaker 86 of Olympia died May 12, 2008. She was born August 24, 1921 to George and Gladys Gallian in Elton, WI. Frances moved to Carbonado in 1941. She worked, during WWII at the Tacoma shipyard where she was the first female ship fitter. The Tacoma shipyard is also where she met Bill; they married July 10, 1944 in Coeur D'Alene, ID. They had three children that they raised in Burnett. After 20 years of service at Rainier State School as an attendant counselor, she retired in 1981. After retirement she enjoyed family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she also enjoyed making crafts that she shared with other people. For the last five years, she lived at the Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia, where she was affectionately known as Frannie. She was the loving mother of Michael Whitaker of Buckley, Judy (Michael) Twardoski of Ellensburg, WA, Linda (Robert) Bolsinger of Olympia, sister of Chuck (Elsie) Gallion of Wilkeson, Bill (Laurie) Gallion of Kamiah, ID, Doris Gallion of Puyallup, Donna (Matt) Hall of Carbonado, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband William Whitaker, Dec. 13, 1975, 3 brothers George Gallion, John Gallion and Darrell Gallian, sister Darlene Jones and grandson Matthew Whitaker. A visitation will be Tues., May 13, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.; the funeral service will be Wed., May 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. both at Weeks' Funeral Home, Buckley.
