Dorothy Payne SEWARD Dorothy Payne, 83, of Seward died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, in Seward. Mrs. Payne was born April 23, 1919, near Rising City to Charles and Margaret (Jauch) Whitaker. She graduated from Rising City High School in 1937. She married George Payne April 23, 1942, in Papillion. She graduated from Columbus Beauty College in 1964. She had a beauty shop in her home for 19 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ulysses, where she had served as the church organist. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Ulysses Extension Club, The Youth of Yesteryear, Ulysses Library Board and Friends of the Ulysses Library. She had been a regent in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Glenna and Donald Mashek of Ulysses; son and daughter-in-law, Carey and Vicky Payne of Woodbridge, Va.; grandchildren; and greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Charles Charlie" Payne: grandson, Capt. Jeffrey Mashek; and sister, Cora Whitaker.
