Interment will be in Houston National Cemetery in Houston on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. Brother Joe Jenkins, pastor of Teche Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Whitaker was a native of Memphis and a former resident of Lafayette having resided in Breaux Bridge since 2007. He retired from the oilfield in 1992 with over thirty years of service. Mr. Whitaker was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a parishioner of Teche Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge.
Survivors include his wife of thirty seven years, Beverly Reese Whitaker, of Breaux Bridge; two sons, James Allen Whitaker and his wife, Cari, of Layton, UT and David J. Whitaker and his wife, Aimee, of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Anita Nope and her husband, Mark, of Clearfield, UT, Janell Barbee and her husband, Bobby, of Lake Charles and Shelly Commander and her husband, Terry, of Magnolia, TX; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Adams of Hamilton, MS and Linda Nielson of South Bend, IN.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles David Whitaker, Jr.; and his parents, Charles E. Whitaker and the former Iona Sumner, both natives of Memphis, TN.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at Teche Baptist Church (3634 Grand Pointe Hwy, Breaux Bridge, LA 70517).
