Mr. Edgar Noble Whitaker, 71, died Wednesday morning (Oct. 22, 2003) at his residence after an extended illness.

He is a native of Toombs County, but he has lived most of his life in Waycross. He retired as a lieutenant with the Waycross Fire Department after 15 years. He was a member of University Blvd. Church of God. He also served eight years with the United States Army. He was stationed for three years in Japan.

He is the son of the late Noble Morgan Whitaker and Julia Bell Sellars Whitaker. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Russell and John M., and two sisters, Louise and Virty Nell.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Corbitt Whitaker of Waycross; a son, Jack Taylor of Waycross; two daughters, Christine Hewett and Lena Deloris Hill both of Waycross; eleven grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 40 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Dolphine Anderson (husband Buster) of Nicholls, and Geneva White of Waycross; three aunts and an uncle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday (Oct. 24, 2003) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Waresboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
