She was born on June 5, 1920 in Adair, the second of ten children to Pius and Laura Lauderback Wherley.
Lois married Ray V. Haney on January 6, 1940 in Palmyra, Missouri. They eventually settled on the Haney family homestead in Industry where they farmed for forty years until retirement.
They had one daughter, Janet Rae (John) Brierton of Billings, Montana who belssed them with six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, Yancey Black, Jean Black, Aaron (Josh) Hayes, Jo (Steve) Branson, Matthew (Melissa) Brierton, Jesse Brierton, Tammy (John) Spencer, John Brierton and Mandy (Chris) Fawcett.
When Lois was not helping on the farm, she enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She and Ray often vacationed throughout the United States with their friends and grandchildren. For more than a decade, she cooked on the weekends at Bud and Marge's in Industry.
She was a member of the Industry United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women where she was famous for her stone soup (without the stone). Lois found great joy in volunteering at the church and spending time with her family, especially her niece, Diana Moore, and grand nephew, Jeremy.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; brothers, Pius "Wendell", Richard, Harold "Babe", Jim, and one infant brother, Daniel; her sister, Ann Coven and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter and grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Wanda (Duane) Himmel, Peggy (Pat) Ross; brother, Don Wherley and sister-in-law, Polly Wherley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Industry United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Greene officiating. Burial will be in the Industry Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb.
