At rest in his heavenly home on February 11, 2008. Born on July 19, 1929 in Adair County, Kentucky to James and Lora Wheat, who preceded him in death. He was a longtime resident of Joliet, IL and retired from General Motors Corporation after 34 years of service. He served on the Crystal Lawns Water Commission and was also a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the Wesleyan Missionary Church in Chicago. Survived by his loving children, grandfather , great-grandfather . He is also survived by one brother, two sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Loretta M. (Dean) Wheet (2007); his loving sons, Elford W. Wheet, Jr. (2001) and James E. Wheet (2007); and his infant daughter, Lori J. Wheet (1961); brothers, Albert Wheat and Elbert Wheet; and sister, Delcie Janes; and infant brother, Sanford Wheat. Elford W. Wheet, Sr. will Lie in State on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Wesleyan Missionary Church, 5656 W. 64th St., Chicago from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Thomas E. Reed officiating. Interment Fairmount Willow Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association in his name would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at: FRED C. DAMES FUNERAL HOME 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet

Elford W. Wheet was born on July 19, 1929, in Adair, Kentucky, his father, James, was 29 and his mother, Lora, was 25. He married Loretta M. Dean on April 6, 1953, in Cook, Illinois. They had one child during their marriage. He died on February 11, 2008, in Joliet, Illinois, at the age of 78, and was buried in Willow Springs, Illinois.
