He was born Sept. 4, 1920 in Iowa and moved to Pahrump in 1986, coming from Long Beach, Calif.
He was an aerospace engineer with McDonnell Douglas until his retirement in 1974. He worked at the Nevada Test Site in the 1950s.
A born again Christian who was active in the Full Gospel Businessman's Association, he served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and belonged to the Moose Lodge. An avid golfer, he belonged to the Willow Creek men's club. For the past five years, Wheeler was one of the valley's strongest voices in support of animal rights.
His wife, Louise, of Pahrump, son Douglas Wheeler of California, brother Doug Wheeler of Washington and too many friends to mention survive him.
