Elizabeth R. Wheeler Beckham, 92, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at home.

She was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Kane, the daughter of Ora Leroy and Ruth Elizabeth Carter Wheeler. She married Ray Dale Beckham on Dec. 26, 1953, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1937. After moving to Alabama to live with her daughter in 2006, Elizabeth and her caregivers enjoyed friends and activities at the Madison Senior Center, and regularly dined at the Atlanta Bread Company. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.

Elizabeth worked for 20 years as a caregiver and provided linen services for Reisch Memorial Nursing Home along with several families in the Carrollton area. She was a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church.

She was devoted to her family and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dennis Byland of Madison, Ala.; daughters-in-law, Linda (Evans) Probst of Carrollton and Linda (Isringhausen) Probst of Kane; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Bradley, Richard Probst, Kathy Theivagt, Jennifer Probst, Christy Renken, Andrea Byland and Heather Donaldson; six beloved great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Edith (Dee) Wheeler of Carrollton; many loving nieces and nephews; and three faithful caregivers, Betty Hardesty, Sandi Glasper and Cynthia Hudson. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; along with her first husband, Denzil Probst; two brothers, Melvin "Zeke" Wheeler and Leroy Wheeler; and a sister, Eunice (Wheeler) Batty; and her two beloved sons, Richard W. Probst and John J. Probst.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home Thursday, and the funeral services will take place at the Carrollton First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at the Carter Cemetery in Carrollton. Memorials may be made to the Carrollton First Baptist Church and Madison Senior Center.
