ROME -- Mrs. William F. Curtis, 84, of 732 N. James St., died Wednesday in Rome Hospital after a long illness.
The former Helen Wheeler, she was born at the Wheeler Homestead in Greenway, daughter of Fred and Caroline Howell Wheeler. She was married to Mr. Curtis in 1910. He died in 1962
Mrs. Curtis lived in Orlando, Fla. For many years before returning to Rome last year to live with her sister, Mrs. E. Stuart (Florence) Caddick.
Mrs. Curtis was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the Albany Business College. She was the first woman to be appointed by the governor of Florida as an official state court reporter.
She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Orlando and was a member of several church organizations. She was a member of the Olde New York Frontier Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, Rome.
She leaves two other sisters, Mrs. G. Allen (Bessie) Hendey of Rome, and Mrs. Ambrose (Katherine) Wesley of Clearwater Beach, Fla.
The funeral will be at 3 Saturday at the Prince and Boyd Home for Funerals, with burial in Verona Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
