Roger A. Wheeler age 79 of Elmwood, died Wednesday June 8, 2016 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center in Baldwin.

Roger was born March 13, 1937 at home, rural Elmwood. He was the son of Carl and Gladys V. (Ottman) Wheeler and grew up in the Elmwood community. He graduated from Elmwood High School in 1956. After high school Roger began his career as a meat cutter at Armour’s in South St. Paul, MN. Roger married Marlys M. Slocum July 26, 1958 in Spring Valley. After marriage they made their home in the Elmwood area and raised their family. Roger worked at Armour’s for 23 years. Roger then worked at Countryside Coop and Elmwood Feed and Farm, both in Elmwood and also farmed, retiring in 1999. Roger also delivered prescription medicines for Spring Valley Drug for a number of years. For the past nine months, Roger has been a resident of the Spring Valley Health and Rehab. Center in Spring Valley.

Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting, going out for fish fries, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Roger is survived by two sons, Dale of Elmwood, Mark of Hudson; a daughter, Becky (Gary) Anderson of Elmwood; two grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Anderson of Elmwood, Nicole (Jeremy) Hannack of Spring Valley; two great grandchildren, Parker Hannack and Ella Anderson; a sister Mary Severson of Elmwood; a brother, David of Elmwood; one niece, Miranda Wheeler, four nephews, Jason and Jared Severson, and Jordan and DJ Wheeler; a special friend, Val Vanderpool of Elmwood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlys in 2010, and a sister, Donna Van and an infant sister, Rose.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday June 16, 2016 at United Methodist Church in Elmwood with Rev. Michael Weaver officiating. Burial in the Poplar Hill Cemetery-Rock Elm, rural Elmwood.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
