Mrs. Birge was born in Sherman, Texas the third child of Captain John E. and Patti J. (Cole) Wharton. She died at home as a result of a heart attack.
Miss Wharton married Nathaniel (Nat) Bradford Birge on 3 July 1889. She was described as a beautiful lady with striking dark hair and eyes.
Two children were born to Nat and Mamie:
Lee Noble Birge, born in 1891
Hattie Wharton Birge, born 1894
The Birge family lived on Birge Street in Sherman, where Mamie created a home as cheerful and gracious as her gentle spirit.
Upon her death she left behind a young family and a large circle of friends who were shocked beyond believe by her unexpected death.
