June 12, 1922 - Aug. 12, 2010
Ruth Lillian Wexler, 88, of Sarasota died Aug. 12, 2010.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Temple Beth Israel. Interment will follow at Beth Sholom Cemetery. Toale Brothers Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, she and her family made their way to Montreal, where she graduated from McGill University. After post-graduate work at Radcliffe, in 1946 she married her beloved husband, Jack. They enjoyed 58 years together, raising a family in Baltimore, Md., before moving to Longboat Key in 1975. Known for her joie de vivre and kindness, her self-stated philosophy of life was to "Be thankful for my blessings and sensitive to the needs of others." All who knew her will attest that this is how she lived her life. In recent years, she and her husband, Jack, were founding members of Temple Beth Israel, where she served as President of the Sisterhood. She was also on the board of Jewish Family and Children's Service.
She is survived by three sons: Bruce and his wife Laura, Richard and his wife Elizabeth, and Steve and his wife Beth. She is also remembered by five loving grandchildren: Thomas, Rebecca, Sarah, Joanna and Sam. She will be missed by many, including her special friend, Gershom Cohn.
