Elizabeth Wetmore Barnhill, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Morningside Assisted Living in Georgetown.
She was born May 16, 1913, in Ogreeta, N.C., a daughter of the late Thomas Hall Wetmore Sr. and Mary Sue Whitcomb Wetmore.
She was the widow of William Eugene Barnhill Sr.
She graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., in 1935. She lived in Conway before moving to Georgetown. She taught in Horry and Georgetown county schools for 41 years and retired in 1978.
She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Watson-Turner Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was also a former church schoolteacher, choir member and a member and teacher of the Susanna Wesley Church school class. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Conway.
Survivors include two sons, William Eugene Barnhill Jr. and his wife, Marilyn Tompkins Barnhill, of Florence and John Hall Barnhill and his wife, Caroline Thomas Barnhill, of Mount Pleasant; a stepdaughter, Eugenia Barnhill and her husband, Stephen T. Christie, of Miami Shores, Fla.; two brothers, Thomas Hall Wetmore Jr. of Salisbury, N.C., and John W. Wetmore of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Bettie Lou W. Todd of Sumter and Joan W. Hull Justice of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, William E. Barnhill III of Mount Pleasant, Rebecca Barnhill of Atlanta, Stephen Christie of Johnson City, Tenn., Scot Christie and Cathy Enberg, both of Miami Shores; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
