From an undated news article (Probably the Joliet Herald Newspaper) with his military photo:

En route home from overseas, T/Sgt. John R. Wetherholt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wetherholt, 705 West Jasper street, has recently been awarded the Bronze Star medal, it was learned by his wife, the former Merle Thompson, who now resides on Pine street, New Lenox. He was stationed with the ninth air force in England, France, and Germany as a radio operator with a headquarters company. The award was made at Bad Kissingen, Germany. In service since June, 1942, and overseas since December, 1943, Sgt. Wetherholt is a graduate of J.T.H.S. and was employed by the Ruberoid company. He last saw his 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Barbara Jean, she was 4 months old, and is looking forward to becoming re-acquainted with the petite youngster.
