Stella Halvorson, 82, formerly of Bismarck, died Oct. 23, 2001, in Minneapolis. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Stella Westrum Halvorson, Bismarck, entered heaven peacefully Oct. 23, 2001. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Joel Sherer and James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Stella was born Jan. 8, 1919, on a farm outside of Clearbrook, Minn., the ninth of 10 children. She attended grade school at Roughy Brook School, skipping over third grade because of advanced performance in the classroom. She graduated from Clearbrook High School and worked at several jobs in Clearbrook.
Stella married Herb Halvorson in 1941. They lived in Shevlin, Minn., until 1947, when they joined the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, traveling extensively throughout the south and east.
They moved to Bismarck in 1952. They joined Faith Lutheran Church, where Stella continued her life's work of service to others. She joined the church staff as secretary and parish worker in 1961, later focusing on parish work only, and continued in that capacity until her retirement.
Stella's contributions to life at Faith Lutheran included senior choir membership and soloing, teaching, discussion leading, Women of the Church leadership and establishment of the Junior Lutherans children's program, worship choir and Friendship Circle seniors group.
Stella is survived by her son, Paul and his wife Victoria, two grandsons, Joel and his wife Kelly and Aaron, and one great-granddaughter, Haley Marie, all of Minneapolis; and a brother, Olai, Clearbrook, Minn.
