He was born in New Mexico, the son of Adam Clark West and Selena Aquilla Ayers who was Choctaw and Mexican. His father was probably English. As a small child he lived for some time in Kenna N.M. He worked for 33 years as a Boy Scout executive for Eastern Oklahoma. He married Vada Lee Oler around 1925; they had the following children: Tommy Clark West b. October 13, 1939 Denton, d. 2001 Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Sandra Lee West b. 1946 Muskogee, Oklahoma.
