The 84th Regiment was organized at (Wayne County) Richmond, Indiana and was mustered on September 3, 1862. It left the state on the 8th for Covington, Kentucky, where it was assigned to the defenses against the threatened invasion of Kirby Smith's forces. Military Information lists him as a private of Company K in the 84th Indiana, Greenville Indianapolis, as an Indiana Volunteer. He was a resident of Hartford City. Mustered/Enlisted on August 15, 1862. Died on June 26, 1864 of battle wounds. He was originally buried near "Kolbs Farm" at the 4th Army Corps field hospital.
