It left the state on the 8th for Covington, Kentucky, where it was assigned to the defenses against the threatened invasion of Kirby Smith's forces. Military Information lists him as a private of Company K in the 84th Indiana, Greenville Indianapolis, as an Indiana Volunteer. He was a resident of Hartford City. Mustered/Enlisted on August 15, 1862. Died on June 26, 1864 of battle wounds. He was originally buried near "Kolbs Farm" at the 4th Army Corps field hospital.
