FORMER RESIDENT DEAD
Hiram Wentz, an old Tamaquan who located here in the early forties and drove a stage coach when railroads were not even thought of, died at his home in Allenwood, Union County on Tuesday evening. He was 81 years of age. He left this town about thirty years ago and bought a farm at Allenwood, which he worked up to the time of his death. He leaves to survive him the following: William of Delano; Frank, of Allentown; Charles and George, of town, and Mrs Amelia Rohbach of Ohio. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. The remains will arrive here on the 1:30 p.m. train and will be taken to the Odd Fellows cemetery where interment will be made.

Hiram and Susanna did not just raise their own children, They also adopted Tamsey Boughter, the daughter of Hiram's sister Lydia and her husband Martin Boughter. Martin was killed in prison during the Civil War (Memorial# 91961300) (1860-1901). The exact date of Tamsey's adoption however it was as early as 1870 where she is listed in the Census as the adopted daughter of Hiram and Susanna.
Also Mary Bell Wentz Beck, the daughter of Hiram and Susanna's son William H and his wife Luzy, grew up on the Hiram wentz farm since as early as 1880 at age 6. After Hiram's death, Mary Bell and her husband Alvin took over the 80 acre farm in Alvira (today known as Allenwood) Union County, PA. There was no mention of adoption.
