Services for Juanita I. Axtell of McMinnville will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the McMinnville American Legion Hall. The Rev. Jim Peterson will officiate.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Mrs. Axtell died Oct. 11, 2004, in her home. She was 80.

Born April 3, 1924, in Tillamook, she was the daughter of Stanley and Doris Jeffers Wentz. She grew up in Portland and graduated from Grant High School.

During World War II, she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. After the war, she moved to Forest Grove.

She worked as an executive secretary at Pacific University for many years. She was secretary for the Forest Grove Planning Commission, as well.

She and Billie F. Axtell were married Sept. 15, 1973, in McMinnville.

Mrs. Axtell moved to McMinnville in 1973. She was a member of the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society, the National Geographic Society, The Smithsonian Institute, Friends of the McMinnville Library, the Sherman County Historical Society and Evergreen Aviation Museum.

Her hobbies included photography, genealogy and reading.

Family members called her a wonderful wife and mother.

Survivors include her husband, of McMinnville; three sons, Paul Haller and Donald Haller, both of Forest Grove, and Gordon Haller of Centennial, Colo.; two daughters, Beverly Aydelotte of Keizer and Laurel Atkerson of Bakersfield, Calif.; a stepson, Steven Axtell of Lacey, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Cathy Gilmore of Vancouver, Wash.; a half-sister, Susan Turley of Riverside, Calif.; a stepsister, Janet Sanford of Grass Valley, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wentz.

Arrangements are under the direction of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Memorial Rose Garden or to Friends of the Library, in care of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
