Mrs. Gertrude Wendell, 74, resident of South Moline township several years, died of heat exhaustion at 2:15 Saturday afternoon in the home of son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Windisch of Geneseo. Mrs. Wendell was born in Galena on Sept. 29, 1861. Her maiden name was Gertrude Matzenbach. She was married to Stanwood Wendell on May 22, 1879, in Rock Island. Mr. Wendell died July 27, 1898. Mrs. Wendell was a member of Wesley Methodist Church of Moline. Funeral services will be held at 4:20 tomorrow afternoon in Knox funeral home, Moline. The Rev. M.J. Hall, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Bowlesburg Cemetery. The body was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Windisch this morning and will be returned to Knox funeral home tomorrow in time for the services. Mrs. Wendell is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Albert Windisch of Geneseo; four sons, Charles Wendell, Alfred Wendell, Lyman Wendell and Dewey Wendell, all of Moline; twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
