Mary Julia Welsh Donaghy was born August 9, 1917, and passed away June 12, 2010, after 92 well-lived years.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for all of the people in her life.
A lifelong resident of Fresno, Mary attended St. John's Grammar School, Fresno High School, and Fresno Business College. She worked at Bank of America as secretary to the bank manager.
She married John P. Donaghy in 1941. Together they founded Donaghy TV, which is still in business today and is one of the oldest independent TV retail establishments in Fresno.
A long-standing businesswoman, Mary was also dedicated to the Fresno community.
She was a founding member of St. Agnes Service Guild, a Cub Scouts den mother, a PTA member for Sacred Heart Elementary School and San Joaquin Memorial High School, and an active member of Zonta International.
Mary enjoyed traveling around the world-visiting farflung destinations such as Egypt, China, Ireland, and much of Europe. She was a formidable bridge player and a devoted golfer who was a longtime member of the Fort Washington Country Club. She also enjoyed spending time with family at Huntington Lake.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, May Jule and Orville Welsh; her husband, John P. Donaghy; and her son-in-law, Rene Errotabere.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Ann and Peter Mason, Edward and Janis Donaghy, Kay Errotabere Frost and Steve Frost, and Richard and Karen Donaghy; 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
