FRIEND COX WELLS

Friend Cox Wells died at his home in New Martinsville, W. Va., on January 17, 1939, at the age of 90/10/10. He was found sitting in a chair by his brother-in-law, J. O. Eakin. It is suspected that Mr. Wells had a heart attack. He was the "youngest" old man of New Martinsville. He stayed active in his work until the day he died. He was the founder of Wells Hardware. He owned a farm on Slim Chance Hill and often walked the ten miles to his farm. He was a great football fan and often took trips with the team and could be found sitting on the bench with them. He was the son of Rolly and Druzella (McMahan) Wells and was born in Marshall County, (West) Virginia on March 7, 1848. He married November 4, 1874 to Adelia E. Robinson. After they married, they lived at Minnie, W. Va. She died May 2, 1936. Survivors include a son, S. R. Wells and one daughter, Mrs. J. O. Eakin. Burial was in Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville.
