Oldest Telegrapher Dead - Alfred Weller Worked at Keys Over Sixty Years. Laporte, Ind. - Jan. 22 - Alfred Weller, eighty years old, who had declared he was the oldest telegraph operator in the United States in point of service, having been continuously in service for more than sixty years, forty years of that time as manager of the Western Union office in Milwaukee, Wis.,is dead at his home. He was buried in Milwaukee. Weller learned telegraphy at Marshall, Mich.
He was the son of the late Rev. Henry Weller, chaplain of the Eighty-seventh Indiana Volunteers during the civil war.
