Julie Lynn Welch Cooley

June 23, 1963 ~ December 22, 2011

Julie Lynn Welch Cooley was born on June 23, 1963 in Marion, Ohio to Edward Carl and Susan J. (Rorick) Welch. She grew up and graduated high school and college in Marion. Julie married and later divorced. Julie's son, Gabrel Warren Taylor was born on Aug. 24, 1998. She loved Gabe immensely and he was always her number one concern. The two of them were very close and enjoyed their time together.

Knowing she had almost completed her time on earth due to a valiant fight against cancer, her greatest accomplishment for Gabe came together a few short weeks ago. She chose a family she wanted to raise Gabe. A real family unit was of the upmost importance when she asked Bill and Tia Masterson to do this – there was no hesitation on their part. When Gabe was asked where he wanted to go, he chose them also. Julie was so grateful and believed it was truly God directed. She was then able to concentrate on other things at hand. Julie was quite the Harley girl. Loved to ride and dressed the part. She said, "I guess I was part hippie." She loved the leathers, the jewelry, and the "du-rags." Julie also loved to draw. She especially loved to draw clowns. During her last few weeks she gave many of her drawings to friends. Julie moved to Colorado four years ago. She fell in love with the region and the people. Her friends became her "family." When Julie was asked how she wanted to be remembered she said, "I want to have been the best mom I could be and that I walked through this disease with grace, dignity, and strength with the help of prayer and my friends. Julie is survived by her son, Gabe, her brother Ed Welch, wife Donna and daughter, the Masterson's Uncle Harold and wife Vickie, Cousin Pam Larkin, and Grandmother Nobie Rorick. She also leaves behind her special friend Harry O'Neal and many friends who stood with her and stayed with her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Susan. She asked everyone to remember – "Acceptance is the answer!" A celebration of Julie's life will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Crippin Funeral Home. The service will conclude at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montrose Cancer Center in Honor of Julie Cooley. A potluck will follow the service at All Saints Church on South Townsend and Church Street. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
