FAIRPLAY FLUME, 7 Jan 1916:
"Mrs. Sarah A. Welch Hopson was born February 12th, 1840, at Truxton, New York. When a young woman, she came with her parents, brothers and sisters to Iowa.
In the year 1872 Miss Welch came to Colorado for her health, where in 1874 she was married to George Hopson. They located near Como, Mrs. Hopson making the ranch her home until the date of her death, Dec. 28th, 1915.
The funeral services were held Jan. 5, 1916, at the South Park Church, Como, the interment taking place at the Como cemetery.
Mrs. Hopson is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary E. Fairchild of Independence, Kansas, who with Mr. A. Fairchild is remaining in the county for a time.
Mrs. Hopson was a very strong-minded character, an interesting example of the passing old timers."
Sarah's husband, George L. Hopson, born about 1832 in Wisconsin, was a notary public and became the postmaster in Hamilton (just north of Como) in 1899. Although as of October 2010, I have found no record of his date of death nor place of burial, he died before Sarah and is probably buried in Como Cemetery.
