Barbara Weinberger of Eugene died Jan. 27 of breast cancer. She was 72.

Weinberger was born Jan. 26, 1934, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Clayton and Mary Barrett Cox. She married Don Weinberger on Nov. 5, 1955, in San Bernardino. He died Aug. 16, 1998.

She had lived in Eugene for 24 years and previously lived in Applegate and Florence. With her husband, she owned and operated the Applegate Shopping Center from 1967 to 1977. She volunteered with the Florence Chamber of Commerce for 14 years, and helped serve meals to senior citizens. She belonged to West Side Baptist Church in Eugene.

Weinberger enjoyed oil painting, growing rhododendrons, crabbing, rockhound activities and movies. She had been recognized by the Florence Chamber of Commerce for her service. She enjoyed spending time with people and her Persian cat, Precious. She will be remembered for her perseverance and kind, gentle spirit.

Survivors include a son, Doug of Gold Hill; a daughter, Shelia Fitch of Elmira; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

No service is planned. Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
