Helen Weill Haas devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died February 20, 2011 at age 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Cyrus Haas, Jr., of Sealy Mattress Manufacturing Company in Memphis and her husband, Marcus Loeb Haas, of Haas Furniture Showroom of Memphis. She is survived by her three children, Kathy Schklar (Charles H. Burnett), Russell Haas (Sheri), Nancy Briggs; and two step-children Margaret Chambless (Karl) and James Haas; five grandchildren, Jill Williams (Matt), Douglas Kasselberg, Lynda Briggs, Matthew Chambless and Sami Nakhleh; one great-grandchild, Caroline Hayes Williams; sister, Peggy Schiffman of Atlanta; nephew Rick Schiffman of Atlanta; and niece Jan Bender of Atlanta. Born in Atlanta, GA, Helen graduated from Northwestern University. She was a member of Temple Israel and Temple Israel Sisterhood as well as the National Council of Jewish Women. Helen's love of art and design shone through in both her personal paintings and the works of art she collected. She was a member of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Gallery Study Group, Brooks Museum and the Memphis Botanic Gardens. In addition, Helen gave of her time helping others through Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Temple Israel, Harry Danziger Chapel, 1376 East Massey Road, Memphis, TN 38120.
