Born in Oberpfannenstiel bei Bernsbach, son of Friedrich August Weigel and Christiane Karolina Goethel. Immigrated from Saxony to the U.S. on the ship "Rhine", landing in Baltimore in 1888. He was a soldier in the German army and allegedly had to flee Germany after slapping an army officer. Settled first in California, Missouri, where five of his six children were born, then moved to Sheridan Co., Nebraska in 1898 where he was engaged in farming. He is twice mentioned in the Mari Sandoz' biography "Old Jules". Left Nebraska ca. 1912 and lived briefly in Milwaukee before moving to Escambia Co., Alabama where he owned a strawberry farm. Moved to Akron, Ohio in 1919. Died in Washabaugh Co., South Dakota, while visiting his daughter.
Albin was married in Saxony to Ida Minna Werner. He was the father of William Albin Weigel, Charles Frederick Weigel, Otto Walter Weigel, Paul George Weigel, Anna Olga Steinmeyer and Frank John Weigel, all now deceased.
A brother, Fred Weigel, lived in Aurora, Illinois, and a brother Emil and sister Anna Cassler remained in Germany.
