Last Sunday, just at noon, Mary J., wife of J. L. McDowell, died at her home here. She had been an asthmatic sufferer for many years and while her condition was known to be serious, her death came unexpectedly and she passed away peacefully and painlessly.
The funeral took place from the Methodist Church, Tuesday morning and was largely attended, many of her former neighbors in the country being present.
Mrs. McDowell was almost 61 years of age, and, having been a resident of this valley, for many years, she had a wide circle of acquaintances, by whom she was held in high esteem and to them her death comes as a personal loss. Her husband and five daughters survive her: Mrs. L. A. Vincent, Mrs. J. N. Weaver and Miss Carrie McDowell of this valley, Mrs. J. R. Nelson of Yakima County, and Mrs. Mary Gray of Albany, Oregon.
Note: Second wife of James Lafayette McDowell; mother of Ada, Carrie and Emma; stepmother of Albert, Anna and Mary.
