Dennis W. Weed, age 64, of Erie, died Friday, November 19, 2004 2004 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Erie on January 15, 1940 son of the late Clare and Nettie Lyons Weed.

He was a 1957 graduate of Academy High School and played lead trumpet in the Rose Bowl Parade. He placed first chair trumpet in district, regional, and state band and orchestra for two years. He had been Rotary "student of the month". He played in many "big bands" in the tri-state area (Woody Herman, Ralph Martiree). After high school, he attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University), then Gannon University. He received his Master's degrees from Case Western Reserve University with honors. Dennis had passed the MENSA tests. He had suffered from rheumatic fever as a child then had numerous heart attacks and strokes. Five separate operations were performed at the Cleveland Clinic to replace 1 valve, repair 1 valve, 5 bypasses, received an experimental pacemaker which was later replaced, had a AAA, and had wire mesh installed for the hernias from this operation.
Dennis has donated his body to the school of medicine, Case Western Reserve University for teaching purposes or scientific research. He was a member of the National Guard and was a graduate of OCS. He had worked for Lord Manufacturing, Ohio Rubber, Walston and Company Stockbrokers, A.O. Smith, and Reliance Electric. After selling his consulting firm he worked for CDI as a senior Mechanical engineer and senior project manager for firms such as Hammermill Paper, General Electric, Erie Coke, SCM, Bristol-Myers, and Elwell Parker. Denny was active with Brith Sholom Congregation. He was a life member of many social clubs including Perry Lodge # 392 F. & A.M. where he presided in 1978, Temple Chapter # 215 where he presided in 1978 then later served as Secretary for 10 years, Jerusalem Council # 33 where he presided in 1967 then later served as recorder for 12 years then served for 5 years as District Deputy Grand Master. He also served for the last 25 years as representative to the Grand Council of Ontario. He was an advisor to Erie and Meadville Chapters Order of DeMolay where he received the DeMolay Legion of honor and was appointed District Deputy.
He was a member of Quator Coronati Lodge #2076 Correspondence Circle of London England for the last 27 years. He was a member of Erepa Grotto where he presided in 1983 then later served as secretary for 5 years. He was a member of Eriez Forest # 175 where he served as Scribe-Treasurer for 6 years. He was a member of Coudersport Consistory where he worked in the office for reunions and had the class named for him in 1994. He was a member of Gateway to the West council #5, Golden Triangle College # 32, and he had received the honor of KYCH in Keystone Priory #26 and had presided in 1992. Denny was a life member of Zem Zem Shrine and had served as treasurer for 6 years. He was a member of the Motor Corps, the cast, the brass band, the Legion of Honor, the Moose Goosers, and the High Rollers. He was also a member of the Philalethes Society, Erie Maennerchor, and the Elks. He is listed in "Who is Who in Freemasonry". He was an honorary member of El Kadir Grotto (Ashtabula, Ohio), Farrah Grotto (Warren, Pa.), Achbar Grotto (Columbus, Ohio), Mocha Shrine (London, Ontario), Enoch Council (London, Ontario). Denny had received the Key to the City of St. Thomas Ontario. He enjoyed gardening, playing softball, soccer, and tennis where he had won the Cleveland Open and had also been a republican committeeman.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Arleen Weed and six brothers, Dale D., Kay N., Norman K., Lynn E., Louis B., and Richard C. Weed.
He is survived by his wife, Maryjane Jinkx Finchio Weed: and from a previous marriage, a son, Dennis Philip, and a daughter, Marcia Aster, of Newark, NJ.
