Edgar was the son of Lyman Webster and Eliza R. Smith. He was a mail carrier as well as day laborer and farmer. He died of paralysis of the heart. He lived in Illinois for 43 years, and was the husband of Mary Smith Connett. He was in the Civil War for the Union; his wife later received a widow's pension.
