REVELRY WITHOUT RESTRAINT
Song, Wit, and Fun Reign at Event Held by the Engineer Department Banquet Association, U.S.A., and Dr. Charles E. Munroe Tells of Some Smokeless Powder
——
Like every honest fellow
I take my whiskey clear;
I’m a rambling rake of poverty,
The son of a gambolier.

With the safety clutch lost and brakes open fifty husky pairs of lungs rolled this wild, careless song backward and forward in the banquet hall of the Arlington Hotel last night, giving notice to everyone within three blocks that the Engineer Department Banquet Association, U.S.A., was holding its seventh annual fun fest.
And a fun fest it was, pure and simple. P.J. Dempsey, president of the association and chief of the department, lost all semblance of official dignity, and Dr. Charles E. Munroe, that learned exponent of the delights to be had from smokeless powder, lighted a short-time fuse and exploded a keg of his own combustible.
Song Predominates
When the diners had marched into the banquet hall the toastmaster rose to make an address of welcome. He may have intended well, but his efforts were drowned in a rollicking chorus, the theme being a tribute to the chief’s sagacity and wisdom
(Several paragraphs down) Remarks Were Remarkable
Capt. A. H. Weber, Pickering Dodge, William A. Morsell, Louis H. Emmert, a gentleman bearing the title of Mr. Cowl and O.E. Camp, assisted by Hugh M. Adams, George C. Potwin and a dozen or more others were listed to make “remarks.” Remarks they did make, really remarkable remarks, and without exception, brought shouts of laughter from the assemblage.
