UPPER SANDUSKY, O., Dec. 24 - Lawrence E. Weatherholdtz, 41, sheriff of Wyandot county, died today at 7:30 p. m. at his home here of complications, the result of being gassed while serving overseas with the American army during the World war.
Mr. Weatherholtz was gassed and wounded in the Meuse-Argonne drive. He was bedfast for a year after his discharge and was stricken again last October, when he was taken to the Marine hospital in Cleveland for treatment. He came home several weeks ago.
He was first elected sheriff of Wyandot county two years ago and was scheduled to begin his second term the first of the year. He was born in Virginia July 21, 1891, and moved to Seneca county when five years old.
He served with the United States army at the Mexican border and later was in France, serving there between June 15, 1918 and March 1, 1919. He participated in a number of the leading battles of the war.
He was married to Miss Ruth Bennett in 1917. She survives with one brother, Harry of Upper Sandusky. He was a member of the local American Legion post and the local chapter, F. and A. M.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. in the home and at 2 p. m. in the Reformed church. Rev. G. W. Good and Rev. Norman Sweat will officiate. It is expected that both the Legion and Masonic lodge will participate in the service.
