Rites for Victims of Crash Monday
Mt. Pleasant - Services for Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Hill of New London who were killed in a one-car crash south of Wapello on US 61 Thursday Jan. 1, will be held here at 3:30 p.m. Monday at First United Presbyterian church.
Rev. Q. Gerald Roseberry will officiate. Burial with military rites at graveside will be held at Burge cemetery, New London. The bodies will be taken to the church from Elliott Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday.
Mrs. Hill was born Evelyn Weas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weas on Mar. 19, 1920, at Marengo. She was a member of the Open Bible Church in Winfield.
Surviving the couple are two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Warren Garrels, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Donald Hamm, New London; Dennis Hill, Mt. Pleasant; Donald, New London; and Robert, Gladstone, Ill., six grandchildren.
Surviving Mrs. Hill are her mother, West Liberty; fives sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Roberson, and Mrs Kathlyn Martin, both of Muscatine, Mrs. Winifred Fusco, Davenport; Mrs. Virginia Hazelwood, Bettendorf, Mrs. Janet LaMears, Springfield, Ill.; a brother, Franklin Weas, Calamus, Iowa.
Mr. Hill was born Jan. 30, 1919, at Wayland, the son of Homer and Jessie Williams Hill.
He was a veteran of Army service during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and his wife belonged to the VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving Mr. Hill; his father, Trenton; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Eagan and Mrs. Esther Dixon, both of Davenport, Mrs. Betty Elliott, Muscatine; four brothers, Richard, Burlington, Lawrence, Trenton; Leo, Mt. Pleasant, William, West Point.
