US Congressman. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives from 1799 to 1801 and in 1806, and served in the State Senate in 1810. During the War of 1812, he was a Captain in the Pennsylvania Cavalry and rose to Colonel in command of the 2nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Unsuccessful as a Federalist candidate for Governor in 1814, he was elected to the Eighteenth Congress serving from 1823 to 1825. After his term he engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
