Fern Adell Barrows, age 101, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, October 3, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born September 29, 1902 in Cambridge, Nebraska, the daughter of Joe and Nellie Clary Wayman. She was united in marriage on May 8, 1922 with Lyle J. Barrows, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1966. Mrs. Barrows was a retired Registered Nurse and homemaker. She was a member of Hopewell Union Church, member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #410 in Versailles, member of the Rebecca Lodge for 75 years, member of Miller Rebecca Lodge #324 in Eldon, the Fortuna Senior Citizens, Willing Workers Club, was a 4-H Leader and Extension Club member, and was Mrs. Liberty in the 4th of July Parade with Buffalo Bill in North Platte, Nebraska. She is survived by four grandchildren, Paula S. Campbell of Harvey, Lousiana, Linda C. Hotinger of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Jean Ann Turner of Gurnee, Illinois, and Gary Barrows of Williamsburg, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Turner, and Jennifer Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Hutchison Barrows Gares, of Versailles, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene L. Barrows on February 3, 1978. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Jasper Hunter officiating. Hymns were sung by Rev. Robert D. Ross accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment was in the Hopewell Cemetery near Versailles. Casketbearers were Darrel Gunn, Jim Daniels, Jack Hutchison, Todd Wilhelm, Tom Daniels, and Gerald Yarnell. Honorary casketbearers were Grover Griffin, Glen Deffenbaugh, Ted Hitchcock and Harold Hildreth. Eastern Star Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.
