James Lee Wayland Jr. age 53, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on July 28, 2012. Mr. Wayland attended Sewanee Academy. After graduation he spent 3 years with the U.S. Navy. Jim received degrees from UNA and UAB. He retired from the UAB Center of Biophysical Sciences and Engineering after 27 years. He was an Electrical Engineer, working on NASA Contracts for the Space Station and Shuttle Programs. After retirement he formed his own company QT Technologies and continued his work. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Mrs. Tracy Wayland; parents, Dr. James L. and Shirley Wayland; his beloved children, Beth (Andrew) Hughes and Lee Wayland; sister, Laura (Paul) Simonetti; brother, Alan Wayland; host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles August 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Jim was passionate about a local veteran's charity Three Hots and a Cot and we ask in lieu of flowers you make donations to them or a charity of your choice.
