Dale Emerson Watt, 91, was born on Feb. 29, 1920 in York and passed away on Aug. 5, 2011 in Scotts Valley, Calif.
Dale was the eldest son of Lyle E. and Laura M. (Flynn) Watt, he grew up in York and graduated from York High School in 1938. He married Helen Nellie Davis of Bradshaw on Aug. 5, 1939.
Dale served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, flying 62 missions, including two missions on D-Day.
Following the war, he and Helen moved to the West Coast where he pursued a career in floor covering, eventually owning and operating his own business in California.
In retirement they traveled the country in their RV making friends wherever they went. His zest for life, sense of humor and fun-loving spirit touched everyone he met.
He loved dancing, golf, traveling and people. After a year-long courageous battle with lung cancer he passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Dale is survived by his two sons, John Dale (and wife, Carol) Watt of Scotts Valley, Calif. and Rex Erwin (and wife, Deanna) Watt of Ferndale, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
His devoted wife of 67 years, Helen, and both of his brothers, Stan and Richard Watt, preceded him in death.
