HELEN WATSON BALMFORTH

Helen Balmforth died Thursday April 20th, following a long battle with an aggressive form of Alzheimer's disease. April 20th was her daughter Susan's birthday and we all feel this was an ultimate gift from our Lord to see Helen's suffering come to an end on this day. Helen was born February 23, 1926, in Salt Lake City the loving daughter of Sarah Ann Spencer Watson. She married Donald Dean Balmforth June 11th, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah in the LDS Temple. Mother felt that her wedding day was the most important day of her life. After graduating from the University of Utah in business, Helen went to work at Zion's Bank and later became the first female bank officer in the State of Utah. She chose to leave her position at Zion's Bank to become a mother. For Helen and Don to become eligible to adopt, it was required at that time for one parent to be home full time. The waiting process took 10 years before Susan arrived. With the loving support of President Thomas S. Monson, Todd was able to arrive in just a short five years. We are eternally grateful to President Monson. Mother, having an education in business, was restless while waiting for her children to arrive, so she ran the family business from home. Mother made provocative investments and built a very successful business in partnership with dad. After Susan and Todd were grown, mother went to work at Hill Air Force Base in the Computer Information Systems Department. During this time mother lost the love of her life, our father, Donald Dean Balmforth. Mother cared for dad every day during the declining years of his life, until his passing, the day before Thanksgiving in 1986. Mother loved the LDS Church and gave her life in service to her family, friends, and church. Helen's daughter, Susan; son, Todd, and his wife, Jacque Balmforth, survive her. Helen's greatest joy is her only granddaughter, Brittney. Helen is also survived by her sister, Lois Watson Lee; her brother, Byron (Lily) Watson; sister-in-law, Kaye Balmforth; and brother-in-law, Dick, and his wife, Helen Balmforth. Family and friends may call Wed-nesday, April 26th from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. You may also pay respect at the Chapel, Thursday April 27th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Woodland Hills Ward chapel, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful. Interment, Lakeview Memorial Estates, 1640 Lakeview Dr., Bountiful. Please join the family to celebrate Helen's life. A reception will be held in Helen's honor at the home of Susan Balmforth, 6:30 p.m. Thursday. 254 East 7th Ave, Salt Lake City, Utah.
